MOVILISE-Mobile and vocationally improved sportsmen via innovative English courses and tools

Sports is among EU's most important priorities within the lifelong learning framework and concerns more than half of the EU population. About 1 million people are employed in sports sector and 10 million work as volunteers. Transforming European sports system into the world’s highest performing system in 2010 is one of the Lisbon Targets on sports. In this context, there is clearly no doubt that the way of achieving this goal depends on increasing the qualifications of sector workers. Turkey has a significant potential with its more than 58 sports federations, 9000 sports clubs and about 2 million licensed and active sportsmen. Sector workers, sportsmen in specific, experience different cultures by attending many international competitions and their mobility is a crucial fact in terms of integration to European citizenship. However, the lack of language skills especially in terms of the vocational concepts complicate sportsmen and coaches and referees mobility and handicaps the integration satisfied by sports. The process results in perceiving the self as psychologically inadequate. In Turkey there are 49.597 active referees and only 1.8% of them satisfy the international referee status which is clearly inadequate. Czech and Hungarian sportsmen also face the same problem as it sets an obstacle to travel abroad, share information and experience with foreign colleagues without any foreign language training and skills. The project aims to increase the qualifications of the workers in the sports sectors and to make contributions to mobility of the sportsmen. With this aim, online training on language modules will be developed according to the needs of the target group. Project consortium includes the participation of universities and NGOs on sports. In addition to project outcomes of language modules a platform will be developed in order to bring sportsmen from different countries together. The transfer of information and experience will be maintained between the partner countries and it will contribute to the fulfillment of the sportsmen’s foreign language inadequacy. The project will contribute to provide necessary tools for integration by sports and language education determined by Lisbon Strategies. Therefore, vocational English trainings and online modules will be developed by task-based and communicative language teaching methods for sportsmen. The project outcomes will be an important instrument for the improvement of vocational skills of sportsmen and increase their mobility. Project outcomes will be disseminated among partner countries and all over Europe.
