PROJECT
FINISHED
The project is addressed to VET 2 students of the families of Electricity and Electronics, Maintenance, and Wood and Carpentry. The IES Politècnic has participated in mobility programmes since the year 2001. Through this project our intention has been to get students in contact with new technologies in the areas of their studies, and with a working and industrial environment very different from the one they can find in Majorca, where the industrial sector is quite limited. Besides furthering their professional and technical competence, through this project we wanted to help the students to live the reality of Europe, promote the exchange at a personal and professional level and eliminate the barriers that come from the fact of living on an island.
Our initial project partners were two schools, the BBZ am Nord-Ostsee Kanal in Rendsburg (Germany) and Ekami in Kotka (Finland). These schools offer vocational training studies similar to ours and we have been collaborating with them for 5 and 13 years respectively. Due to this fact the mechanisms of organisation, management and development of the project are well established. During the project a thrid partner was incorporated: Associazione Culturale Fortes from Vicenza, Italy.
The objective was to send three students on placement to Kotka and 3 to Rendsburg, as well as two teachers to each place. Finally there has been a reorganisation of partners and we have sent two students to Italy and four to Germany. We have also received students from Germany and Finland.
In the case of students it is a big challenge for our school to offer them the possibility of a working experience abroad and to fight against their reluctancy to leave the island and work in a different working environment. In the case of teachers, we have seen that their involvement and participation is fundamental, not only because of the improvement in their training and motivation, but for the impact it has on their students and their own professional practice.
We have observed that carrying out placements in companies abroad has a very positive effect on the curricula of our students, on their chances to get a job and ito continue with their training, either in their country or abroad, apart from contributing to the improvement of their language skills.
