Motivation and Inspiration for Learning

Our project has focused on the need for professional and personal development of the school faculty. The need and discussion of such a project has emerged after some reflective discussions about the quality of learning our students are receiving, the increasing challenges faced by teachers daily, the minimal professional empowerment provided and the need for a European dimension to education. Our project is part of a school improvement plan which aims at the developing strategic interventions for the improvement of our school. We have made a SWOT analysis and professional development has emerged as an area that needs support. The participants will be from all departments and will include burned out professionals with experience and frustrated newly appointed teachers. All of our teachers have a Bachelor degree in the field they are teaching, most have undergone pedagogical training before being placed in schools and some have master degrees. |A total of 30 faculty members will have the opportunity to benefit from these courses.Through the courses proposed, we hope to achieve a holistic approach to our schools educational development which will include strategic management, inspiring facilitation, reflective teaching, development of teams and coaching skills. Teachers, students and parents will benefit from the new approach and the new skills that will be developed. A parent has commented that the teachers seem "demoralized" and this made us think that besides all other efforts of school improvement, we need to look at the needs of the teachers and provide them with the opportunity to have training that will motivate and inspire them for change. Motivation and inspiration is the impact envisaged and change is the long term benefit we hope to achieve.
