This project is an intensive, hands-on training course for 24 young people aged 18-25 from UK, the Netherlands, Albania and Macedonia. The course will take place in London for six days in July 2011. The theme is effective leadership and professionalism, in a European youth work context. Participants will themselves be young people who have begun to take on volunteer responsibilities within youth groups and organisations in their own countries, who are ready to take the next steps in their personal and professional development, and who want to begin working internationally.The objectives of the training are: to increase understanding of what makes a good leader; to give participants confidence in their own ability to lead groups and activities; to improve team working and professional skills; to encourage curiosity about other countries and cultures. Activities will include: workshops, meetings and visits; team building exercises; a power simulation; a youth business challenge; tour guiding challenge; and a film / media challenge. Our methods will be highly interactive: the success of tasks and learning outcomes will depend on the efforts of participants working together.This is not a one-off experience: we emphasise the importance of follow-on activity. This means that all participants will leave the course with an outline action plan for their own international project; and also that we and our partners will ensure that after the course they are given increased volunteer responsibilities, and that their projects are implemented (if possible with Youth in Action funding). We will also give them further opportunities within Momentum projects as these arise.
