This project will develop an explanatory dictionary (Metallurgical Expressions Translation System) of technical terminology in metallurgy, for the use of workers, university students and teachers and other professionals in the engineering industry. A needs analysis by the project partner identified the need for an up-to-date collection of terms adapted to the work-situation. The result will be a CD ROM-based tool, in English, German, Swedish and Hungarian, which will enable institutions and individuals in the sector to enhance their language skills. The inclusion of SMEs, metal industry associations and unions, universities and their linguistic experts will ensure that all possible aspects of the subject are included. Vocational training institutions and metallurgy companies will be invited to use the material, which includes tutoring or self-learning methods and an assessment tool, in their language training. A web site (METALLINGUA) for the promotion of language teaching in the sector will be set up. This will also be used as a forum for the promotion and distribution of the product in the industry and vocational training institutions.
