PROJECT
FINISHED
The project will conduct a scientific study on the benefits of linking exercise with brain training to promote healthy ageing and good memory for older adults (55+). At the same time experts in the fields of sport and brain training, who have specific experience in creating programmes for older adults will share their knowledge and create a training manual. This manual will be tested throughout Europe in partner’s home countries during a 10-week training course. Throughout the course surveys and questionnaires will be given to participants and trainers and the data gained from this will be used to better inform the scientific study and to add further substance/ lessons learned to the training manual. The manual will be accompanied by videos which will be uploaded to the project youtube channel. Project background:An increasing number of studies are showing that exercise is hugely beneficial to promote brain and memory health in older adults. This project will look into the benefits of combining mental challenges with exercise and establish a clear training manual to provide trainers with a wealth of ideas for promoting healthy cognitive function in older adults throughout Europe. The project combines scientific approaches together with practical knowledge needed to provide the seniors with the training. The project will produce two significant Intellectual Outputs:1) Manual for the trainer - the MEMTRAIN training programme including the following chapters:- the Science behind MEMTRAIN- Safety and Psychology for Sport with seniors- Introduction to Judo for 55+- Introduction to Zumba for 55+- Applied Physical Activity- Memory Training - The Basics- Memory Games Workshops- Diary for Trainer 2) Youtube channel of the project with video instructions for the above mentioned chaptersTarget groups:1) Seniors (aged 55+) which will be motivated towards healthy living, physical activities and mental training2) Trainers (working with seniors) which will be taught to combine physical activity training with memory trainingThe project will contribute to better understanding of the development of seniors' mental and physical skills on an European level.
