Melting Potes "Gender?"Hamlet of Vaunières, France2nd to 22th of August 2016The association “Villages des Jeunes” acts for the social integration and the participation of all volunteers as a part of its action, in particular helping the socially disadvantaged, locally, nationally and internationally. Its objective is to allow people from different social and cultural situations to work together at something useful. To reach our golas we like to propose new activities to let some new persons and groups join the project. Then, for the 4th year, we’ll organize a new youth European exchange called “ Melting potes : et genre quoi?” (Melting potes : gender)The thematic will be the gender and related topics : Representations of men and women, sexualities, inequalities, stereotypes, homophobia, patriarchy, heteronormality, etc.In our daily life, We have to face the fact that sexes and sexualities are not equal yet. Gender stereotypes are still existing and contribute everyday to inequalities and violences against those who don't fit the norms. To try to overcome this, we'll work with the young people in order to let them understand this topic, create their own critical analyze of it and develop some tools to raise public awareness about it. Thus, spreading values of general equality, tolerance, freedom and respect. Then 20 young people ( aged from 18 to 30 y.o. ), coming from Spain, France, Greece and Macedonia will meet in Vaunières ( Hautes Alpes, France) from august 2nd to 22nd to debate, meet and exchange about this topic. This project is for any person who would like to experience some collective and intercultural adventure and is interested in the gender theme.During the exchange, the participants will collectively work on some gender's definitions, stakes, and impacts, through various workshops base on active pedagogical methods. The interculturality of the group is also gonna be used to let them discover other cultures in a more positive way, and to quit stereotypes and prejudices and raise their curiosity.. During the whole workcamp, participants will immerged in a real « intercultural bath », by sharing collective life with other international groups ( international workcamps, social groups, families, etc.)By the end of the exchange, the participants will have to create their own workshops to let people from the village and the valley nearby discover this gender topic. This will create more links and connections between people. They will be taught some methods to make their workshops more efficient and thus get more usefull skills.During the exchange, the young people will get to know an association's life and different ways of volunteering. The final event of the exchange is going to be the « Meling potes festival », on august 20th. This festival is gonna be opened to anyone, advertized in the cities nearby and will highlight the topic of the exchange and the participant's work.To do so, the village will host some conferences and some movie projections, we will also host a one-woman show, a « world buffet » and some live bands. The hamlet is located in the Hautes-alpes, in France, at 1200meters. Surrounded by wild nature and mountains, it was abandonned in the early 20th century, and was rebuilt by teenagers workshops during the last 50 years. Nowadays, its an international and social center, hosting international volunteers, french teenagers, families and friends. Participants will live in tents in the hamlet of Vaunières and They' ll participate to the village's life by helping in collective tasks, cooking and joining evenings. We would like this exchange to have several positive impacts :In a local level, that it contributes to revitalize the rural area we are living in, to strengthen partnerships with local associations and to create some new spaces to let people from the valley discuss and share about some political topics with persons from abroad. In a European level, that this exchange creates some new partnerships and consolidate the existing ones. We also hope that it will allow participants to spread their views and what the will have been working on during the workcamp, using the "toolbox" they will have created together.
