Mejorar a través de la internacionalización
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Context We are a public secondary school with students from middle and lower middle-class backgrounds who have trouble finding jobs and have few international opportunities because of their lack of foreign language skills. This happens in a city whose main economic activity comes from tourism, having received more than 1,200,000 tourists in its province in 2013. We have a stable and experienced group of teachers that have regained their energy after adapting to reforms that had limited their innovation abilities. Objectives • Improve teachers’ language skills. • Establish contact with teachers from foreign countries. • Learn about other education systems and exchange experience. • Initiate international activities. This is in order to establish a base that motivates students to broaden their horizons in order to improve their skills and employment opportunities. Number and profile of participants 14 teachers with the following profiles will participate in: Innovation course about teaching English: One English teacher, motivated by internationalization and with a pre-planned program of implementing the knowledge acquired during the course. English courses in the UK: teachers from four different departments, who each have a B1 English level, and are motivated by internationalization and the need to improve their language skills. English CLIL courses: Our teachers from four different departments, who each have a B2 English level, are motivated by internationalization, and have the intention to introduce English language teaching content in their programming. Courses about PISA and European education systems: Two teachers with a B2 English level, motivated by internationalization, with good knowledge of our education system and its legislation, and have high-quality organizational skills and experience in international partnerships. Course of Modern Greek: One of our teachers of Latin and Greek, with a B2 English level, that is motivated by internationalization and innovation and has the intention to apply the knowledge acquired during the process to his/her own programming. Job-shadowing in France: A teacher from the Department of Language with audiovisual experience, a B1 English or French level, is motivated by internationalization and innovation, and is committed to applying the knowledge acquired via several mediums. Description of activities One innovation course about teaching English, eight English courses (four of which are in CLIL format) in the UK, one innovation course about Special Education, two courses about the Finnish education system and other European systems, one course about innovation in the teaching of Greek and European Studies in Greece and one job-shadowing about media in France. Methodology to be used A committee will select candidates via a public announcement, evaluating how well they fit the desired profile, their language skills, their experience, and a personal project. The school shall appoint a person responsible for managing the course and its practical details, as well as mobility agreements (exchanges) with partner schools and beneficiaries. Before the exchanges take place, linguistic and cultural preparation will be provided via a 20-hour course, giving the selected teachers access to different platforms and materials for preliminary work. During the exchanges, the school will have a central contact person. When the exchanges have been completed, the selection committee will oversee the documentation generated and develop the organization of outreach activities. When the project has been completed, Erasmus+ team will measure the impact and publish a final report. Brief description of the results, expected impact and long-term results In participants: increased professional skills, language skills, and contact with European teachers. In colleagues: increased motivation to internationalize, knowledge of methodological tools and other educational systems, and participation with the contacts made. For students: a more innovative learning approach to English, possibilities of contact with European students, and increased motivation to internationalize. In the school: improved internationalization and an increase in its general appeal, an improved workplace atmosphere and an increase in overall satisfaction, possibilities for addressing bilingual education, and opportunities for future partnerships with foreign institutions. At the local and regional level, by means of the school’s annual “culture week.” At the provincial and regional level, there will be teacher centers to intervene in meetings that advertize the Erasmus+ program. At the national level, through the National Agency. At the international level, by taking advantage of professional networks and Erasmus KA2 projects. At all levels, via media diffusion: radio, newspaper, and the internet.
