Meet the Need.
Vocational Teaching Material Supporting the Integration of Migrants into the Labour Market
Start date: Jan 1, 2011,
Migration is an increasingly relevant topic in the EU. Especially "old" EU-Members are the main target countries facing the challenge to enhance migrants' integration into society. In this respect, encouraging migrants' independence and social inclusion through their integration into the labour market is a major task; and participation in second language courses can be seen as a relevant step in this direction. A great range of language courses for migrants are offered in many EU-Members, but mostly without any specific vocation related focus. Language teachers stress the increasing demand for such material. Therefore, Meet the Need aims at developing particular vocation related language teaching material including terms, modes of expression, and communication skills which specifically meet business requirements. Meet the Need has the following objectives:- Analysing specific language and communication requirements in selected occupational fields which have major relevance for migrant population- Analysing specific requirements for vocation related language teaching material- Developing a Compendium including teaching material for 5 selected vocations/professions, edited for the use in second language courses for migrants in adult education- Promoting social inclusion of migrants by enhancing their second language competence with respect to their vocation, thus supporting their labour market integrationThe Compendium will contain technical language and modes of expressions for selected occupations. To ensure that the product meets the requirements of practice, all project steps are realised in close collaboration with both second language teachers and employers. The Compendium will be edited according to the needs of teachers and translated into the partners' languages. It will be made widely accessible to second language teachers and adult educational institutions by dissemination activities in all countries. This ensures an EU wide long term contribution to quality adult education.
