Project in brief As gateways for container traffic from Asia to Europe, the ports located in the Mediterranean basin play a crucial role in international trade. However long-time inspection of goods at checkpoint borders cause massive storage of containers in ports which often do not have enough storage capacity. In addition, the lack of real-time information about freight circulation may lead to inefficiencies in logistics and supply chain management. MED-PORTS aims to develop synchronisation models for logistics in ports of the Mediterranean area with a view to fostering the reduction in residence time of goods, the traceability of movements in container terminals and the use of radio-frequency identification technology. Specific objective To optimize time synchronization of intermodal freight exchanges so as to minimize the permanence of goods in Mediterranean Sea Basin ports and obtain a higher level of service (quality, safety, delivery time) for the different actors of the supply chain Expected Results: • Set of technical solutions designed to optimize goods movements • Capacity of port authorities strengthened to enable the development and implementation of improved technical solutions • Standard procedures to process goods in different ports in Mediterranean region defined • Increased competitiveness of concerned ports through reduced time for operations
