Me.M.W is an Erasmus + Key Action 1 training course where 30 participants from 9 different EU and partner countries will meet to increase the knowledge and understanding of gender issues. The 9 partners are from Cyprus, Malta, Lithuania, Croatia, Turkey, Czech Republic, Italy, Poland and Romania.
Gender role is quite often seen as a granted role in the society. Unfortunately there are lots of misconceptions derived from traditional settled negative stereotypes that are attached in a concrete way around the real definition and concept of Gender. These misconceptions lead elders and youngsters confuse sex with gender. Thus, it is observed that gender roles which are based on misconceptions and negative stereotypes support social exclusion, marginalization in everyday. The proposed project explores gender issues in today's society as a tool tailored for youth workers, youth leaders, volunteers and multipliers who want to support within their communities social inclusion and bridging gender differences and reduce negative stereotypes. It will be a situated learning opportunity since most of the working methods will be highly experiential and hands on. It is a training course to inspire and not to qualify. By this we mean that, while taking into consideration the variations that exist in different counties in terms of qualifications and knowledge on the subject, participants will be encouraged to build on the experience gained from the project and adapt them according to the demand standards back in their countries.
Issues and Needs:
The aim of the project is to increase knowledge and understanding between different countries with a special focus on gender issues and stereotyping (also in the entrepreneurial world). Participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas about practice, create new working methods and improve their expertise that will be applicable when working with the groups of young people within the cultural context of their own countries.
Objectives:
The objectives that have been set for this training course are as follows:
- To break the negative stereotypes of gender roles and distinguish definitions;
- To increase awareness of the importance of the collaboration of both genders;
- To promote NFL as tool for social inclusion and gender equity for promoting entrepreneurship and progress;
- To provide participants with useful learning tools that will help them to rise the quality of their society when dealing with youth with gender related issues (ex fewer opportunities in participation);
- To promote and share realities, related issues and priorities of the participants;
- To share experiences of practices and tools in the field of gender balance and equity in youth projects/activities;
- To open ways to work on solutions through networking and creating future cooperation projects between the participants in the frame of future international projects;
- To offer an interactive meeting space for youth workers in the European context in order to exchange good practice relevant to gender issues;
- To offer a participatory programme of activities ensuring everyone's active involvement in its evolution;
- To empower participants in acting as multipliers so that they build up to the experience gained during the course and having it spread to relevant stakeholders;
- To stimulate participants' interest in different aspects of gender equality, such as in working field, negative stereotypes and in everyday life;
- To explore possibilities for future cooperation (as training courses, youth exchange, ngo's common policy on same topic) among participants and their ngos namely in the field of gender equality but not exclusively.
Methods to be used:
The methodology will be based on the principles of non-formal education such as experiential learning and cooperative learning. Some of the non-formal educational methods that will be used are plenary sessions, discussions, workshops, open space technology, brainstorms, simulation games and guest speakers.
Target Group:
- Youth workers, NGO members, leaders and people active in the youth policy;
- Active youth interested in working with social media and social networks
- 3 participants from each of 9 partner countries
The training will be held in English however if the participants are not so good at understanding the language the trainers are proficient in various languages and this will help in delivering the message.
