Masters in Contemporary Performance and Composition
Start date: Oct 1, 2010,
A growing need for contemporary music specialists both in interpretation and teaching methodology has led the consortium to work towards developing a new master level programme of new music. Gathering the best practice of partner academies, the program will focus on innovative teaching of contemporary music. The topics of the curriculum will be new approaches in composer-interpreter relations, creative approaches in music education, music technology and transdisciplinary projects. The aim of the programme is to offer master students an opportunity to specialize in contemporary music composition and performance using up-to-date teaching methodology. Workshops of art management included in the curriculum will offer the students basic knowledge of art management and skills of entrepreneurship. The developed modules and the transdisciplinary approach will provide the students with essential and vital skills and knowledge needed in the contemporary European cultural context and labour market.During the first two years of the project, the consortium will work on the development of the curriculum. The final year of the project will be the period of assessment and quality control, as the program will be tested on the students of the partner academies. As a result, the consortium will establish a common curriculum "Masters in Contemporary Performance and Composition" (CoPeCo). A programme website will be created, all relevant materials will be available online. The target groups are the students and teaching staff of the partner universities, the aim is to include other European conservatories in the consortium over time. In a longer perspective, the beneficiaries will include culture institutions and audiences on the widest level. New audience groups will be reached through the means of new media.
