"The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in collaboration with the Hellenic Oceanographers’ Association aim to undertake ‘Marine Exploring Researchers’ (MAREXPRES) on Friday 27th September 2013, in the framework of ‘Researchers’ Night 2013’, under the scope to enhance public recognition of researchers across Europe. Therefore, the consortium intends to hold an outdoor event in The Old University in Plaka, one of the most attractive locations of Athens. MAREXPRES will try to communicate to the general public that researchers are ordinary individuals capable of socially interacting, whose profession is both challenging and fascinating. During the event the researchers will present some of the broad applications of Marine Sciences and their research trying to highlight that ocean exploration is useful to the society and improves our life. There will be an interdisciplinary approach by biologists, chemists, geologists and physicists, members of UOA laboratories and HOA, in a comprehensible yet scientific and festive way, with researchers acting as guides, animators, and coordinators. MAREXPRES will try to achieve a mass participation, addressing an audience of mixed age categories and backgrounds, giving the public the opportunity to frequent scientists in diverse circumstances, different from those usually anticipated. In addition, MAREXPRES will point out that European citizens can be EU support beneficiaries, such as of Marie Curie actions. The activities of the event, which will be of both scientific and entertaining nature and try to satisfy a broad spectrum of interests, will be planned and implemented by researchers of all levels. All the presentations, simulations and activities will expose attendees to ocean exploration and will try to set them in the shoes of researchers. Therefore, the MAREXPRES project aspires to constitute a central massive event."
