MALog - Mathematical and Applied Logic
Start date: Dec 1, 2009,

Mathematical logic develops the kind of thinking that is needed by the future planners of technical devices in order to have end-user friendly, logical technical applications. This creates an urgent need for workers with mathematical logic skills in European enterprises. The main objective of MALog is to provide prerequisites for company employees, as well as students in high schools and universities all over Europe, to effectively learn mathematical logic. Various studies indicate that these target groups need tools to help them learn mathematical logic effectively. The project helps to bridge the gap and addresses the objectives of the programme by developing an entirely novel semantic architecture based on an ontology to be developed in the project. This will be realized by using the architecture to create adaptive learning paths for individual learners. The project’s target groups will be tightly involved in each part of the project. First, the needs of learners in different educational levels will be clarified. 60 pedagogically high-quality learning material units on mathematical logic and applied logic will be produced . Each learning material unit will consist of required ontology data, learning goals, prerequisites and the different scenarios with the learning materials for each. The content types of the produced learning materials will include theory, exercises, simulations, exams, etc. All the learning materials will be produced in English and translated into Finnish, Romanian, German and French. Once the learning materials are ready, they will be tested in real learning situations and developed according to the feedback collected. All the material produced in the project will be placed in an on-line Material bank which will be made freely available to all interested European educational institutions and enterprises. Furthermore, potential new end users will be informed about the project through various promotion activities included in all WPs.
