Janis Rozentals Riga Art Highschool is a prominent secondary art school in Latvia that teaches art in accordance with longstanding traditions of classical art and stays up to date with contemporary developments and job market needs.Janis Rozentals Riga Art Highschool sees the value of continuous development by improving language skills of students and academic staff, developing interdisciplinary education programs, fostering innovation in education, cooperating with European Union art schools and creative industries, and promoting internationalization. Therefore, the school is willing to implement the ERASMUS+ project “Arts. Visual Communications Arts. Interdisciplinary training”.The Project involves 7 cooperation partners: Janis Rozentals Riga Art Highschool (Latvia), Lybecker Institute of Arts and Design (Finland), Escola Artística Soares dos Reis (Portugal), Robert-Schuman-Institut (Belgium), The Volos Municipality vocational training institute (Greece), Instiuto di Istruzione Superiore G.Mazzatinti, Liceo Artistico (Italy), Sukromna Stredna Umelecka Skola Animovanej Tvorby (Slovakia).The scope of the Project includes 24 students from Janis Rozentals Riga Art Highschool who will attend month-long practices in the European schools in art or visual communications art education programs and 24 professional improvement visits (2 weeks long) of art and/or visual communications art teachers over the period of 2 years.The Project goals are development of professional competencies by learning specific technical skills and technologies undeveloped or unavailable in Latvia, improving language skills and promoting personal and intercultural competencies to assist participation in European job market. Familiarization with various technical resources and education methods as well as interdisciplinary education will facilitate innovations in vocational education and training at Janis Rozentals Riga Art Highschool.During the abroad practice students will develop portfolios of practice assignments and, together with participating teachers, put together a project booklet reflecting project highlights, success stories, teachers’ experiences and lessons learned. The booklet will be a practical roadmap for future participants of the ERASMUS+ projects. At the conclusion of the project participants will organize an art and multimedia exhibition at Janis Rozentals Riga Art Highschool. Exhibits will later be used for other shows and events of the school.Janis Rozentals Riga Art Highschool education programs represent a specific and unique field in Latvia’s secondary vocational education system, and the Project will provide a valuable input into the field of creative industries by improving expertise and competitiveness of participants.
