Making Science Attractive - M.S.A.
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Greece needs all its talents to boost creativity and competitiveness. It needs an innovative science education which shall enable today's and tomorrow's citizens to play a more active role in the Research and Innovation process, to make informed choices and to engage in a democratic, knowledge-based society. It needs young boys and girls to pursue careers in science, technology while at the same time adhering to the values embedded in Responsible Research and Innovation. Yet it has been increasingly difficult to attract adequate numbers of young people, to these domains and to avoid a brain drain of talent from Greece. For raising the attractiveness of science education and boosting the interest of young people in Science and Technology, new methods and tools are needed to be adopted in teaching. Additionally, although the professional development and the improvement of the quality of training educators have been recognized as a priority at European level, there is not a clear view of the particular and specific skills and qualifications teachers should have. The objective of the M.S.A. project is the raising of specific competencies needed by trainers, to fulfil the scope of making, teaching science and technology more attractive and at the same time fostering entrepreneurial mentality according to the real market needs, preparing students for the future with the skills that are needed for today and tomorrow.Lyceum of Souda, has designed one international mobility, for 8 school teachers engaged in science teaching field. The mobility will have a seminar form, visiting Berlin and the selected teachers will have a vital role in achieving the goals of quality, efficiency, creativity and attractiveness of science in Education. Trainers during their international placement are expected to improve their Competences among others in how to use new innovative methods and techniques of teaching in Science Education, new curriculum contents in science teaching, to empower the learners, how to be team learners, to use techniques of empowerment and relationships management. The M.S.A. program is expected to have an impact on trainers of science fields of our institution, and on the educational methodologies that this institution is applying for the implementation of its science education programmes. This impact will be limited at the beginning in the science trainers that will participate in the international mobility activities. However, will be filtered to other trainers of our school as well as schools of Chania region.
