Make It Worthwhile!
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The EVS project “Make It Worthwhile!” involves one volunteer from Germany and is the result of cooperation between two organizations - hosting/coordinating organization from Ukraine and sending organization from Germany. Project activities will take place in the city of Sumy on the period of 12 months (01/09/2016 - 31/08/2017). The primary objective is the exchange of information and experience between two different cultures: German and Ukrainian. By joining the European Volunteer with Sumy Network of Euroclubs, we hope to develop solidarity and cross border relationships between Ukrainian youth and their European partners. Together they will learn to celebrate the broad diversity that exists in Europe, and help to strengthen the way to a larger, more encompassing European Union. Implemented activities: participating in and leading Euroclubs involving local school and university youth focused on promoting European values, active citizenship, civic responsibility, community service, teaching leadership skills to youth and providing them with knowledge about EU, European integration, what it means to be European citizen; promotion of cultural diversity and breaking stereotypes about home countries of a volunteer in the local community; promotion of voluntary service among local youth; strengthening the Sumy Network of Euroclubs. The project “Make It Worthwhile!” aims to empower youth to use intercultural dialogue as a tool in combating intolerance towards other cultures, religions and nationalities, fostering mutual understanding and creating effective integration mechanisms for a more inclusive Europe. Methods: leading discussion groups and intercultural workshops; workshops on EU issues, project design, management and implementation; facilitating shared information and collaboration between organizations; conducting native language clubs; development of future EVS opportunities for Ukrainian youth. As a result of the project, EVS volunteer will be more actively involved in youth work and develop his talents, get practical experience in the project work that leads to better career opportunity. In particular, the volunteer will: - improve their working skills in project and event management, PR, administration and communication, media and digital literacy; - improve linguistic skills; - increase their self-esteem and self-confidence, personal and professional growth; - make new contacts and international links; - become more independent; - develop higher level of responsibility. As a general result of the whole project we expect that all organizations will: - exchange knowledge and good practices as a result of international cooperation; - expand their projects and activities as a result of implementing new ideas; - increase their visibility on local and international level; - strengthen their cooperation and increase capacity in the field of youth work. One of the important elements of the project would be learning practical aspects of EVS, NGO and youth work. We believe that all partners and individuals who become a part of the project will find a mutually beneficial and inspiring environment for personal and professional growth and implementing new ideas. All participants are expected to organize follow-up meetings in their organizations and share their experience and learning outcomes. Taking into the consideration the lack of responsible, competent, self-confident youth leaders, the project will help in developing the network of young people willing to participate in EVS, correctly and clearly understanding the principles of European citizenship, recognizing value of personal impact on the local community as well as ready to promote, facilitate and implement Ukrainian-European EVS mobility. Cooperation with and the personal example of the EVS volunteer will: - enlarge the number of young people ready to develop themselves in personal and professional way, improving the level of key competences and skills, such as responsibility, leadership, trustworthiness and ethics through collaboration with local communities and foreign representatives; - socially active citizens who use the opportunities for young people, ready to complement policy reforms at local, regional and national level, successfully using the techniques of informal and non-formal leading; - enhance the role of youth workers, leaders and organisations who support structures for young people. It is also of equal importance for the EU and non-EU actors to get direct experience and knowledge about today's conditions for youth, their problems, obstacles and aspirations.
