Magyarországi swing tánc és kultúra fejlesztése
Start date: Dec 29, 2014, End date: Dec 28, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Keep Swinging association is focusing on popularizing the 20-40's American swing dance, music and culture. Its acitivities are public dance education, operation of club programs and events. Every year, more than a thousand people participate the dance instruction, demonstrations, performances we hold or organize. We arranged or taught over 300 classes, lectures, demonstrations, and events last year. Background Information: In Western Europe and the U.S., many people deal with swing dance at a professional level. Hungarian organizations do not have enough financial resources to regularly appear on foreign training so local dancers struggle keeping up with international ones. In Hungary, there is no training that would provide a high level of knowledge. Having stronger bonds with international dance communities is the key to improve the situation. In Western Europe larger communities typically organize international workshops. Participation in such events provide great opportunity for professional development of our adult education. The purpose of our project is to develop adult education of our teachers, assistants and wanna-be teachers. Our experience in the field of adult education prior to submission of the application: - 4 teachers, more teacher assistants and volunteers help us make our lectures, and other events happen - More than a hundred students participate our event every week. Our classes almost exclusively involve adults (over 18 years old) - We regularly organize educational lectures on the history of swing music and dance Professional background of participants: - All participants are either teachers, assistants, wanna-be teachers or education coordinators - Our teachers teach weekly 6 to 10 hours a week for beginners and intermediate levels, and have 4-10 years of background in dance. They exercise regularly. - Our education coordinators created methodology for the first year of dance classes and regularly maintain it. They also developed different presentations of swing dance and music history. The main steps of the implementation: We participate on regularly held international workshops of foreign communities. With cooperation of organizers we tailor the existing program to the needs of our Association: additional classes, consultation about education coordination. Our association participated in five different international events within one year. Topics and program of these workshops: - 4-6 hours of daily dance classes - "history lessons" about music, dance and culture of the era - "Job - shadowing" while participating international teachers' lessons - Identification of the best international practices in the field of education coordination - Language practice Application of the mobilities' outcomes locally: - Organizing local workshops to share knowledge learnt at mobility with other teachers, education organizers - Documenting new knowledge, developing existing methodological documents of the Association - Applying and fine-tuning results during regular classes - already during the project Expected results : - Teachers with higher level of skills - New teaching materials - up to intermediate level - New concepts in teaching methodology - Today's teacher assistants and candidates become teachers - New teacher training concept - New and stronger relationships with other international organizations Short and long term effects of the project: - Mobilities' participants improve their dancing, teaching and education organization skills significantly - A stronger connection to the European dance communities - Motivation for continuous self development of the Association's members - Providing a positive vision, so today's teachers, teacher assistants can become teachers, even employees of the Association - With the help of new teachers we can provide more programs, promote the culture of swing more often - Improved student retention due to the higher level of training - The taught dance technique will be more compatible with the international practice, so more students can successfully apply what they have learned in other European countries - With the help of new teachers we can launch more courses, our students can choose from bigger variety - Students are more motivated by the example of their teachers' continuous development - Students will join the Association as volunteers seeing the teachers' continous development - Our community will have stronger bonds with international dance scenes and oragnizations. Our community will be more accepted internationally. In the long-term future we can create teacher or student exchange programs with foreign dance organizations, ensuring the contionous development of our community
