Lost in the woods
Start date: Feb 1, 2016, End date: Oct 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Scouting promotes self-education of the participants. This project provides participants in scouting opportunity to grow and develop personally to become independent, active and responsible individuals. The goal of this project is that the participants have the opportunity to take on both familiar and new challenges in an unfamiliar environment, such as hiking, camping and outdoor cooking in cooperation with foreign scouts. The scouts set their own goals; personal challenges are manageable with support of the group. Participants from Iceland will be 16 scouts, age16-25 years and 2 scout guides. Participants from Slovenia will be 18, aged 16-20 years and two captains. The focus is on outdoor activities. We will go hiking, stay in tents most of the time, groups learn to make camps in the forest, promoting the culture of each country for other participants and share their experience of scouting. The scout method is the framework for self-education. Games and experiential learning will be most prominent in this project, but also helping, community involvement, outdoor activities and environmental protection. The project promotes healthy lifestyles for both the participants and the young people who work in scout groups with their leadership. Participants will find that scouting is a platform for personal development at all age and are likely to remain loyal to the movement. Local scout associations will have the participants to lead diverse projects organized by the movement. The aim is to increase cooperation between large and small groups of young people in Europe and elsewhere. Scout programs in Iceland increase their cooperation, e.g. by working together on applications in Erasmus + and joint participation in receiving foreign guests. The introduction to independent life in European country may influence the mobility of participants in seeking education or work within Europe
