Living together in community
Start date: Sep 1, 2014,
End date: Dec 1, 2015
PROJECT
FINISHED
De Ark Gent (l'Arche) is a community where people with and without learning disabilities work and live together. They share daily life and work. De Ark Gent has one house and is providing a dayprogram for the people with disabilities.
One participant will be joining us through the Erasmus+ project. Just like our own staff, he will live together with the others who live in the house, both people with and without disabilities. The goal is to share their daily life with these people, and assist them where needed. He will be part of a team and will be coached by his director.
The tasks of the participants will vary. The main activity is spending time together with the people with disabilities (e.g. playing a game, cooking together). They will also assist them where needed (e.g. bathing), and do some household tasks (e.g. cleaning). Participants will be part of the team and therefore also attend team meetings.
The goal of this project is to broaden the social network of people with disabilities and to integrate them more into our society.
Participants through the Erasmus+ program will learn to broaden their vision on the world and people around them, to look different towards people, and to build lasting relationships with people who are different from them. They will also learn practical skills of caregiving.
