LIRA - Life In Rural Areas
Start date: May 1, 2009,

Nieuw-Weerdinge has a long tradition of European projects and these projects form the foundation for the work that we do with young people. Also the visibility of so many differing cultures in the village does wonders for the negative attitude that inhabitants have over everything including themselves. Our group will consist of a couple of experienced exchangers who will receive onsite trainiing as leaders topped up with some new participants. The participating countries will be Bulgaria, Italy, Greece, Lithuania, Slovenia and The Netherlands. Slovenia will be participating in one of our projects for the 1st time. We participted in a project in Slovenia in May 2008.All the partipants from the participating groups come originally from rural areas.. 1) To compare situations for those living in rural areas in the participating countries.2) To examine the role played ny EU programmes in Rural Development e.g LEADER.3) To work as volunteers alongside our own volunteers ( some 60 ) on a 3 day children's project with the theme " Cultural Diversity " The programme element " Working as volunteers on a childrens project " in 2008 was such a success that it has been decided to include this element once more in this year' s project. Albeit on this occasion for 2 instead of the 3 days. A full 3 days proves to be too much for some of our visiting " volunteers ".
