“Linking Europe by Education” Project to take part in the Erasmus + Programme Dates: 2015-2017 Obra Diocesana Santo Domingo de Silos School is a multicultural educational center involving about 2.500 students from twenty different countries - most of those located outside the European Union. “Linking Europe by Education”, designed for a two year lapse, is aimed at easing the ability for our school to open up toward the European Union dimension. The project provides our communiy with the opportunity for sharing experiences with other students and teachers from different socio-cultural backgrounds and realities. Over the past years, we have worked in creating a multilingual environment within our community. The bilingual programme we had instituted in the Pre-School and early stages of Primary Education, is now also instituted in Secondary. Our teaching community would benefit from the opportunity of: learning and sharing experiences with other school staff members; obtaining a greater degre of linguistic competence both in teaching and use of ITs applied to teaching English. In fact, the experience would also contribute to the development of coolaboration relationships between participants and exchanges of best practice.To reach this aim, we have decided on the following courses for three teachers of our bilingual Primary School section: "English for European Educators" and "Language and practical methology: creativity in the classroom" in Exeter (UK); and "Using technology for teaching English" in Cardiff (UK).Our school strongly believes in and supports the application of ITC in teaching throught the different stages of education, mainly in relation to teaching foregin languages. There has been a considerable effort made in equiping the school with new ITC tools: digital blackboards, electronic books and similar tools at the convinience of all teachers. This investment requires our staff to be properly trained; we have a wide interest in learning how other schools manage, use and apply the above mentioned tools when teaching, mainly in relation to foreging languages. Furthermore, we want our community to have a closer approach to the idea of cooperation within the EU for a better education.The partners chosen differ in socia-cultural backgrounds:“Mezitli imam hatip ortaokulu” en Mercin, Turkey; which will be visited by two of our Secondary Education staff members. “Zakladni skola Hradebni” en Broumov, Czech Republic; where three of our Pre-School teachers (two of them from the bilingual section) will spend some time.We believe that both centres stand out in their willingness to open toward the European reality, as our center does. Regarding the activities included in the “job shadowing”, we outline:- The direct observation within class.- Working with cultural differences and similarities- Teaching with inmigran students- Learning about medioambiental good practice- Teaching methodology in a different educational context. The very characteristics of the activity suggests the use of an inductive methodology based on experience in harmony with our projects. We have detected certain necessities in our classrooms and after a period of reflection and consideration we are aiming at measures that improve teaching methodology. Teaching methodology is closely connected with our students´results in the competences we wish to imrpove in the long term: linguistic competence (English) technological competence (IT management) and awareness of the European dimension. There are many benefits to this type of programmes, one being direct benefits for our members taking part in them, and other benefits acquired from those sharing their experiences. This last aspect is key to the development of our project, and will involve: - Making available for the rest of the teachers all the materials used in the courses - Presenting the educational methodology and practises observed in a series of forms: articles within the school´s website, a specific blog created to spread Erasmus + Project among our staff, conferences for all the staff members where the development of "Linking Europe by Education” project will be further explained. This way, we will encourage other staff members to take part in future editions of the project as well as continuing with teacher/student partnership with other centres participating in the programme. There is one last goal set up for the long run. In five years time (By 2020, ) we wish to have provided all our students with the opportinity of taking part in, at least, one activity connected with European Union: from drawing / writing competition on the Day of Europe for our youngsters, to taking part in Euroscola for older students, or internship in companies for our Vocational Training students. Using tools such as etwinning, hosting foreign teachers and student exchange programmes are also in the agenda.
