Levla språket
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project Levla språket, which means upgrade the language skills, is based on the request of the language teachers in Skellefteå municipality to receive qualified training and further education in the languages they teach. The geographic location of Skellefteå, in the north of Sweden, makes it difficult for teachers to meet and learn from native speakers of the foreign languages: English, French, Spanish and German. The participants in the project wish to consolidate their basic skills in the target language and thereby improve their knowledge of the language. By doing this the education in the schools of Skellefteå will improve so that the students’ results increases. By means of this project the participants’ knowledge and understanding of other cultures and countries will increase. Furthermore it will widen the possibilities to participate in networks of international contacts. The project involves a total of 50 teachers who will attend a course in a country where the target language is spoken. The language teachers in Skellefteå teach pupils from the age of seven to the age of sixteen. Teachers apply for participation in the project by describing their needs of further education and their expectations on the course. They also describe their previous experiences of eTwinning. The project group hosts a meeting for preparation for the selected participants where information is given and practical matters are addressed. The participants are given the task to keep a journal during the trip where they reflect on their achievements. This will also be used as a support later in a seminar where they tell other teachers in Skellefteå of their experiences from the project Levla språket. The expected outcomes of the project are a higher level of language skills and a greater knowledge of up-to-date civics among the participating teachers. Competent teachers have students who meet the curriculum objectives to a greater extent. The participants are expected to function as sources of inspiration for other teachers in the municipality. One vital thought of the project Levla språket is that it should function over time and the project group’s intention is to submit a renewed application at the end of the first stage. This will make possible for more teachers in Skellefteå to take part of the project and to improve their skills. The project will inspire further international cooperation, e.g. through eTwinning.
