PROJECT
FINISHED
In the EVS project named Let's Learn and Talk 2gether we were hosting two volunteers: one native German and one native English speaking volunteer. Jenny Kutter who was born in Germany, but was living in Austria in the last years and Katie O'Hara from Ireland. The greater part of their work was held at the primary school Gradec and other branch schools that fall under the umbrella of elementary school Gradec. They spend 4 days a week in school and one day per week they were working at the Youth center Litija. Each volunteer had a mentor and coordinator both at primary school as well as in youth center. Jenny lived and worked in Litija for 5 months, Katie nine.
Through various activities in school and Youth Centre, volunteers represented their culture, country and language. The aim was enriching education process on a higher level in the creative and pleasant atmosphere, promoting international mobility, EU citizenship, cultural diversity and decreasing unemployment rate among young people. Both volunteers were encouraged to do their personal project. Litija Youth Centre is in regular contact with other organisations in Litija ( library, retirement home, elementary schools and high school, etc.) where they were able to organise some events or get involved with other interest groups.
The plan was that both volunteers would develop /recognize their potential and use this unique experience in the future to be more attractive to prospective employers. We believe that we have succeeded, as the volunteer Katie, after completing the EVS project, went to Honduras, where she is working as a volunteer in bilingual school. She was accepted to the project mostly because of the invaluable experience she had acquired through the project in Slovenia. Volunteer Jenny, despite the fact that she ended her project early, stayed in Ljubljana for some time and started teaching in a language school as a native speaker. Jenny also got the job due to her experiences and one of them is also teaching in Elementary school in Litija.
