It isn’t simple for young disabled people to make those experiences that allow them to gain adulthood, skills and self-reliance, and to live life in a very independent way. The project “Leaving the nest” aims to offer a meaningful experience of this sort, experimenting the welcome of young foreigners, and sharing with them knowledge and educational, enriching paths. This international exchange project aims to be an experimental proposal able to promote, at a local level, the chance to meet young disabled from other countries of the European Union, and to develop a positive knowledge, in a welcoming, friendly and sharing atmosphere, to increase self-reliance and consciousness of the world around them.Young disabled people (aged 20 to 30) coming from three different countries, will work together by distance and in presence, being active in a non formal learning path based on different key competences necessaries for the independent life.It will be a peer exchange of knowledge and abilities necessaries for the independent life. The young will involve daily their peers in experimenting different activities as the use of the new technologies (cellular phone, web, internet) in order to find useful information for the daily life; the ability to plan a town road map; the ability to orient themselves in a foreign city; the ability to move around with the public transportation; the abilities for a healthy nutrition, cooking, shopping for cooking; money management and house management; ability to speech in a different language: knowledge of basic terms useful for the daily life in a foreign country (Italian, English and French).At the end of the project the target group of participants will benefit of an improved individual autonomy, self confidence, self consciousness; improved capacity to have relationship also in a different language; improved capacity to be key players with desire and capacity to be protagonist in spite of their condition of mental or physical disability.The project is strategic also for the promoters organisations that will have a first occasion to improve their capacities and the capacities of their internal personnel to work in an international contest and exchange methodologies and practices in a practical way. Furthermore trough the project will be created a stable EU network of organisations able to work on Erasmus and also other types of programmes and projects, offering an effective enrichment of services addressed to the young disabled in Europe.
