Learning to Care
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

"Maltos ordino pagalbos tarnyba" (Auxiliary Services of the Order of Malta) plans to receive 2 EVS volunteers for 10 months. Most of the organization's activities are focused on youth-work, work with children and social aid for different target groups. Most of activities are carried out by volunteers. The more volunteers the organization has, the larger scale of services it can provide. Project goal - involve the EVS volunteers into some of the activities, strengthen them this way and have the stronger positive impact for our target groups, while creating space for the volunteers to grow by carrying out those activities. The project is a good space for young people, especially for those, who are interested in social field, who have finished social studies and plan to work in this field. The volunteers will have their service at children day care center. They will help to plan and run daily activities for children and teenagers from 7 to 15 years old. They will also join some other daily activities of the organization in Vilnius: activities with children, teenagers and adults with mental disabilities, aid for visually impaired people, visiting other children day care centers, similar institutions, special schools together with Youth maltesers (local volunteers), help on planning and running various events, summer-camps, rallies, etc. Non-formal education principles will be used while giving the tasks for volunteers. They will perform the role of employed worker helpers, they will carry out activities together with experienced local volunteers and later they will be able to perform some tasks on their own. The tutor together with the volunteers will prepare the plan of activities for the volunteers' service, supervise them and help to perform the tasks smoothly. The mentors will support the learning process for the volunteers. There will also be space for initiatives of the EVS volunteers (their personal projects). The project will strengthen some of the organization's services. New methods of working with target groups could arise, which could be continued after finishing the project. This is the opportunity for the volunteers to foster various competences, skills, acquire experience. This is the possibility for the organization to make the positive impact for our target groups even stronger. For the target groups the project means even more attention and support, some of which will possibly remain after finishing of the project.
