PROJECT
FINISHED
For several years now, the European Prison Rules helped to operationalize all activities dedicated to detainees. Among the latter is sport. Its place and role in prisons vary from one country to another. It is the same for the supervision of these activities and the initial and continuing training of sports supervisors. We took advantage of a survey and several previous projects focusing on prison education conducted by the FR coordinating organization to focus with particular interest and willpower of investigation in a number of characteristics (give voice to female inmates to know their needs in education, education of sentenced minors, violent behavior in juvenile with penal measure, sporting and physical activities in prison, ...).This interest has resulted in the development of this 2016/2019 project focusing on "Sport in prison as a support to the acquisition of transferable skills to help detainees to better prepare their reintegration into society" that would lead three comparative studies (detainees and sport, coaching activities, sporting and physical activities) based on transferable skills using pedagogical approaches centered on the individual person (eg. inmates). In addition, this project involving inmates (F/M, Minors from 16 years old and over/Adults) is to observe how sport is considered, supported and organized in different European penal environments to meet individual needs through new approaches on skills development. To be able to make comparisons from several countries, various institutions join this consortium in order to be immediately operational to make up our work to policymakers. Thus, within the project partnership, we find on one hand Prisons (CY-DE-ES-FI-IT-LV) to be able to help us to improve surveys of inmates and sports supervisors as well as justice departments and ministry (CY-DE-IT) involved in reflection so to bring contribution to a research on the topic that can check results with comparisons in several prisons in Aquitaine (FR).LV is a public probation service which is able to follow the reintegration of released inmates. In terms of communication, a digital workspace will be created and a logo will be designed. A periodic message will trace the progress of the project and return the recipients (ie. contacts' list) to the digital platform. In terms of methodology, seminars, conferences and transnational meetings including study visits will be organized and surveys will be used. These surveys will be conducted through questionnaires, designed and tested by partners, on two cohorts, first with inmates and second with sports supervisors in prison. At the end of the project, the analyzes to be performed based on data issued from the two questionnaires will be collected in an e-book in two parts (including anonymous examples to support the analysis) which could be downloaded from the workspace. The recommendations that emerge from the two analysis will highlight and relay, where they exist, the good practices and simultaneously detect weaknesses. From the surveys, we also could draw attention to the importance in variety of sporting facilities in prisons. On a short and medium term, our actions on the project have to impact directly « participants/ participating organizations », « target groups » and « relevant networks ».At the end of READY...GO in 2019, several recommendations from the data collected could be transferable as we have compacted information to achieve:- analysis of the inmates’ needs carried directly from questionnaire to inmates in EU partners' countries - an inventory of professional profiles and needs analysis in terms of add-on training of sports supervisors in prison- a tool and methodology guide for an APS recognition as a teaching aid in the progression of acquired (transversal skills and sub-skills), therapeutic tool to restore self-esteem, and vector for reintegration- an educational set on EPS of informations for supervisors in prison including recommendations for sporting facilities in all new prison projects to build in future.
