Language Training
Start date: Jun 1, 2016,
End date: May 31, 2017
PROJECT
FINISHED
One teacher will attend a training course in France to learn about language learning and methodology. This will help with embedding the target language (French) into Shapinsay Primary School. This will also help the school to meet its Languages 1 + 2 obligations. It will assist in finding European schools to partner with. Pupils will use ICT to communicate with other schools in the UK and abroad. Teaching methods encountered on the LFEE course will be shared with local schools. Resources will also be shared with other schools, and uploaded to the Orkney Glow website. Our small, island school in Orkney off the coast of Scotland is quite isolated. By learning modern languages, our pupils will be better equipped to travel to and work in Europe as adults if they wish. Much of the Orkney economy is based on tourism. Anyone working in the tourist industry will find the ability to speak other languages very useful so, even if they never leave Orkney, language learning will be of benefit to our pupils.
