FINISHED
In Hungary it is expected that students, finishing secondary school, possess language skills to find their place in the labour market. Parents choose those schools where their children can obtain these high-level language skills. In our ICT based society it is a great challenge to motivate students. One needs creative ideas and new methods in order to be able to do so. The long-term plan of our school is to ensure our efficient operation, support environmental protection, competitiveness, international projects and constantly support teacher training, thus ensuring the renewal of teaching methods. The self-confidence of our teachers will grow by coping with situations abroad, and their leadership abilities will also develop which enhances their more effective operation in the whole school. We have the firm belief that school education provides children with the basics of what is needed to fit into society. We take this role of ours very seriously. We intend to create good atmosphere in our school in which students, parents and teachers can cooperate effectively. This is one of our principles. For this, we need motivated, open-minded, ready-to-improve teachers. However, to achieve this, the teacher has to improve his skills, as well. This is why we need the designated professional teacher training courses.Four of these courses are primarily concerned with methodology. In the lower classes, our colleagues (Nikolett and Krisztina) ,who give the children the basics in English, aim to learn new methods to be able to maximize the effect of their teaching. The same applies to Zsófia (our Spanish teacher) and Gertrúd who work in the secondary school section, who guide our students to the exams when finishing their secondary education. They all have the same short-term objectives, to broaden their perspective, widen their vocabulary, refresh their teaching skills, exchange ideas with foreign colleagues to learn from them, gain insight into the English and Spanish culture and education systems, get hold of authentic materials, learn more about the use of ICT tools, improve international contacts. These requirements are fulfilled by all the courses that were carefully selected. The short-term objectives of the colleague,Tünde, who is the leader of our current KA2 project (focusing on environmental protection) is, to develop an environmentally friendly way of thinking in the students and design teaching materials to reach this goal. Her long-term plan is, with the help of networking, to ensure that we have partner-to-bes for an upcoming KA2 project. It is inevitable to send our colleagues to similar teacher trainings, if we expect high-quality work from them. It is more than important for us to do so, as we are a high school which specialises in languages. According to the latest regulations in Hungary, the existence of such schools is only supported and financed by the state, if 80% of the students obtain language exams when finishing secondary education. For this, we need to be up-to-date and most effective which puts great pressure on our language teachers. Therefore, they have priority in our training scheme. The main duties of the participants during the course will be to reactivate their methodology knowledge, exchange relevant teaching practice with other participants, get to know different cultures, and also to discuss good ideas concerning sustainability. All our five colleagues have consciously chosen to be accommodated by host families to get first-hand experience about life in other countries, thus enhancing mobility within the EU.As they will communicate in the foreign language they teach, their language skills will also develop. As a result, they will be motivated. The five members of staff who apply this year, are maximalist in their private as well as in their professional life. Because of this, they fit very well into our community and as they are open-minded for development, may it be of any kind (life-long learning), they are perfect role models for our students. Therefore, we, as leaders of the school highly support their application. In order to support our teachers’ mobility and increase their participation in training course abroad, we encourage them to learn languages, the use of ICT tools, as well as methodology. All these operative aims are supported by the chosen courses and workshops in Oxford, Exeter, Dunfermline, Spain and Greece. They will act as open-minded, motivated, well-prepared participants. With their freshly learned methodological skills and abilities we, as a school, expect to be more efficient in teaching languages, and prepare our students successfully for the language exams. Our colleagues always do their best as regards teaching, and support the development of our school actively. In order to make our school more productive we advocate their participation in the teacher training courses, as their personal improvement enhances the development of our institution, as well.
