PROJECT
FINISHED
Our team of dedicated staff at ŠCNM are committed to supporting European projects due to excellent experience from previous projects as well as due to the fact that mobility is an integral part of the school’s strategic development. One of the objectives of the participation in Erasmus plus is to enhance the mobility of students of all the programmes at ŠCNM, namely with twenty-six students and three accompanying teachers who intend to take three-week work placements. The motto of this year’s project is “Erasmus plus is not mandatory but it helps”. What is more, the students should grasp the idea that participation in such projects might be an important step towards their future employment anywhere in the European Union. The fact is that employers nowadays seek candidates who are versatile, flexible, broad-minded, and highly-motivated for changes and innovations.Another objective of the project is to raise awareness on the part of the participants, about European democracy, entrepreneurship and career management. The idea for the project was initiated by the students who had participated in previous projects of work-placement (Evropraksa) and are now able to promote it and transfer the experience to teachers and other students. Furthermore, in one of the surveys carried out, sixty-eight students claim that having been provided with work placement means better career opportunities and above all it is an invaluable experience. Consequently, some other students will be given the chance to get involved in further projects, to delve in step by step: from writing CVs, letters of motivation, evaluation forms, reports, to taking job-interviews and their actual work placements. At one stage of this process they will be appointed their mentors abroad, who will introduce them to their work assignments, various requirements, standards, health and safety regulations and work ethics. What does the title STEPS TO SUCCESS mean? The title is based on our students’ previous experience, namely that a successful career path involves gradual evolvement. The project, though, is an added value to the established ways of training and education in Slovenia. Another point is that our students should be able to meet the demands of today’s job market; hence, work placement is one of the steps to their future careers.TEN STEPS TO SUCCESSStep 1: Motivation: students get familiarised with the idea that mobility can improve their employability in the future.Step 2: Application: students write covering letters, fill up application forms for K1, which might serve as a mock application in their recruitment process.Step 3: Writing CVs: students are taught how to write good CVS to become eligible candidates.Step 4: Role-play: students take different roles in job interviews.Step 5: A job interview: taken at work-placement abroad; provided by our partner agenciesStep 6: Testing professional terminology: students are expected to use professional terms in different contexts.Step 7: Taking work placement.Step 7: Evaluation: carried out by both students and their mentors. Students are given immediate feedback.Step 8 Final evaluation (via Skype) all the parties involved: students, mentors (abroad and at ŠCNM), ŠCNM project manager and a training officialStep 9: Certification Logistics and partnership:Work placements will take place in Malta, the UK, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Germany. Criteria for the selection of partners/agencies are determined by our previous cooperation. These agencies are striving to ensure that the training is relevant, engaging and tailored to specific/individual needs. One must not forget that most of the anticipated students’ mobilities will be taken for the first time; therefore it is important to guide the students through the whole process of recruitment and the programme. All the arrangements will be taken care of by the ŠCNM project manager and will include the plans for accommodation, itinerary, insurance, possible emergency situations. Furthermore, she is also responsible for finances, contracts and agreements, contacts with the partnership agencies and for supervising the entire placement. Assessment:Students will assess their own progress at work placement by filling in adapted ECVET formsAccompanying personsDue to safety regulations and demands on the part of some partners in Germany, the UK and Ireland, the students will be provided by accompanying teachers. This means that in the above-mentioned countries, the students will be supervised by two mentors (a teacher-trainer from ŠCNM and a mentor in a company), by a project manager at ŠCNM. The accompanying teacher will take care of professional skills; the mentor at a company will be focused on health and safety issues, on delivered tasks and will also give advice when necessary.
