ZSCKR in Mokrzeszów is an agricultural school located in a rural area between the towns of Świebodzice and Świdnica. According to the 2012-2020 Social and Economic Strategy Programme, key problem of in the area is unemployment, especially among younger population (9.6%, 2015 study by Świdnica County Employment Office). So, the strategy’s objective in the agriculture area is to support modern farming and agribusiness activities. Our students may benefit from the programme opportunities provided they modernise their family farms or establish new competitive ventures and this placement may provide the skills and insight to enable them to seek self-employment and enter the work market at an advantage. A group of 18 students currently training as technician of agribusiness and technician landscaper will be offered a whole new perspective and set of unique skills taught at a German training centre. This experience will additionally grant them insight into German practical training schemes and work market. During a two-week placement the project beneficiaries will have a hands-on experience on how to analyse the market in search of a business opportunity or niche, but also how to launch their own operation simultaneously honing their linguistic skills, since many of them will surely, due to geographic factors, come in contact with either German-speaking employers or customers. The project will enable its participants to experience the idea of work mobility, lifelong learning and the realia of the German work market. These competences cannot be acquired at home inside a class-based environment (the same students, the same teachers who have been teaching more or less the same using the same methods and via the same, all too-familiar equipment for a number of years). The project will enable the realisation of the following three objectives: placement preparation, placement, dissemination of results and effectsThe preparatory phase will be held at home school (additional classes and online component) to improve the participants’ command of the German language, especially in the work-related area, present target culture and traditions and extend the knowledge related to planning and starting business activities, searching for funding opportunities and analysing market opportunities and threats. The school has all the required assets to perform this component, however lacks practical training facilities due to financial limitations and weak co-operation with private sector so that it is difficult to practise at length how to plan and design private gardens or communal greenery (no all-year training grounds for lawn and flower bed setting, planting/replanting seedlings, mixing soil etc.). This component will be organised at the partner’s location - DEULA Nienburg, a modern training enterprise providing continuous learning services specialising in knowledge transfer, practical skills acquisition and innovative approach to agricultural sector. Work placement will be staged at the DEULA Nienburg training centre. Pre-agreed training curriculum will prepare students to run their own landscaping ventures highly vested on implementing various species of herbs and to learn how to operate an organic farm producing herbs, so technology of herbs production and identification will also be covered along with economy-related areas. Participants will acquire key experience in the areas of planning and starting their own business, raise practical competences related to agribusiness and landscaping, improve their command of German, especially in the area of work-oriented vocabulary and customer relations, learn the German expectations of the work market, culture and traditions of the Nienburg area, and, as a result, increase their motivation to systematic study in their area of expertise back home. During the training the beneficiaries will find themselves inside a modern facility – a large hall where, regardless of weather conditions, they will design and landscape their plots where the key role will be played by various herbs, plot paths, plant seedlings, and implement their ideas to combine ecology with a successful business operation. Accompanying teachers will have a perfect opportunity to verify whether teaching and training model implemented at school may still be valid for real-world realia so that critical analysis can be performed and a proper improvement scheme relating to school curricula and practical training base or modernisation be planned. The dissemination of results will be covered during an at-school show/review of participants’ ideas for their prospective ventures after they have returned from the placement, films made when training and other training materials which will be uploaded to the school’s and project’s websites. A blog will be started so that participants will feel more inclined to post their daily progress accompanied by photos/other visual media. Local press will also be invited to provide coverage.
