The KNOWMAKERS project aims to provide European SME managers with the necessary skills for the application of knowledge management procedures and tools within their own organisation.An initial analysis will be undertaken to identify barriers (particularly those resulting from the lack of competencies) to the implementation of knowledge management systems and procedures in SMEs. Training needs will then be identified and a corresponding training plan developed by the project. The training plan will be supported through the introduction of a complementary training programme and series of training materials which will then be piloted with a limited number of SME managers.The end results will be a complete training system, to include procedures, modules and materials capable of providing European SME managers with the competencies necessary for the successful implementation of a knowledge management systems and procedures.Additionally, the project will raise awareness of the activities undergone and the results achieved through articles to relevant press and journals, through introductory seminars and through a range of additional dissemination approaches (webpage, leaflet, newsletter).
