Hersleb Upper Secondary School is a new Secondary School opening in August 2014 with 750 pupils and 90 teachers. The school is situated in the centre of Oslo in a newly restored building dating from 1922. Our courses are GCSE A-level courses and vocational training programs. The school has signed a formal cooperation agreement with the University of Oslo, focusing on biology and geosciences. Learning methods will be practical with extensive activity outside the classroom. The teaching methods will be practical tuition with out-of-classroom activities. The school wants inquisitive learners who want to use their resources and complete education. The school's idea is to create new learning venues in and out of school. Increased activity within the field "Internationalization" is an aim in our strategic plans. The object of the project is to recruit pupils to vocational training within health and social programs, to build up the school's reputation and to give the pupils an edge in the competition for a job. The project will create academic motivation and increase the scope of training. The pupils will be chosen according to specific selection criteria, which will have a positive effect regarding attendance and risk of dropping out. The project will give more attention and status to vocational training within health- and social programs in particular. The pupils will reflect on differences and similarities. They will become more independent and mature by having to make decisions and master new situations. They will learn to respect other countries' school systems and become aware of strengths within their own education. Meetings between participants in the project will create new networks where management, teachers and pupils gain new insights and professional expertise. Hersleb will get teachers from Sofienberg/Sogn/Kuben Upper Secondary schools. Sofienberg has for several years had good experience with exchange programs with Finland (Nor-Plus) and Germany (Gjør det!). Teachers from Sogn/Kuben has participated in the Leonardo Mobility "Vocational Training in Europe". The participants in these projects have provided the school with competence and social outcomes, and created friendships and fellow community that is still ensured. The school management by the Head, has primary responsibility for the project application. Contact person is the department manager of health and social programs. She has had primary responsibility for internationalization for several years and participated in several courses organized by SIU. The Head and other members of the management have visited the projects. This network secures predictable projects of high quality. The project will initially be about training in health and social care and the participants will primarily be selected from Vg2 health service and Vg3 dental assistant/medical secretary: 2-6 pupils and 1-2 teachers. The teachers will provide professional and social monitoring and ensure good quality. Hersleb has formal agreement with the following partners: ADC College, an educational institution that offers a comprehensive plan with host families, language courses and work placements in day-care and senior centers. ADC College is a new project partner that will broaden our experience. Foundation Noruega Costa Blanca (FNCB) has extensive experience with international projects. The school is a vocational training office within Rogaland County Administration with apprentices in the program health and social care. YA Vocational College of Ostrobothnia is a large professional arena where three boarding schools merged in 2009: Svenska yrkesinstitutet, Korsnäs Training Center and Vocana. The school has a range of vocational programs and broad cooperation with institutions in the area. The Norwegian students will participate in school lessons and have practical training in the institutions. Hersleb Secondary School will use the experiences gained from the project in the marketing of the school, on the homepage and social media. Acquired knowledge will be spread to our partners and to other Oslo schools in relevant forums. Our pupils will participate in this work. The school's future plans are to develop international projects in General Studies especially in language, history, natural sciences and biology. The goal is to create new networks for teachers, pupils, school management and business associations.
