Kino Otok is intended for the general and professional international public, offering a high-quality programme selected by its international programme board. It aims to broaden film horizons by presenting innovative European authors and visually stunning films which could otherwise not be seen in this territory. The particular focus is put on film education of children and young professionals. It is based in a bilingual coastal area with the local crowds being Italian, Slovenian and Croatian. During the festival, Izola’s picturesque old town centre is transformed into a real film island, where the entire film festival colony gathers and enjoys the screenings under the starry sky, followed by the nightly festival throb at the Izola’s Lighthouse social programme.The accompanying and educational programmes include international workshops and masterclasses for film professionals and general audience, meetings with authors and highly diverse film literacy events for children and young audience through the collaboration with national authorities in the field of film literacy. Extended networks with other festivals and partners throughout the year enable the presented films and authors to circulate Europe and enter the distribution chain.The festival’s priority is to invite to Izola the authors of most of the presented films. The foreign guest visitors were all, without exception, impressed by its ‘formula’ and expressed the desire to visit this unique island of cinema again.
