Kids 2 Talk- Werkzeugkoffer Mehrsprachigkeit f r Kleinkinder.

Kids2Talk is developing a “language through play” toolbox for small children growing upin Europe in a multilingual, intercultural environment. The toolbox consists of innovativeplay material for children and instructions for parents and teachers. Providing childrenwith focused support in their early years should awaken their interest in language andmultilingualism, arousing their curiosity and desire to develop language. Children fromall sections of society want to know how their world works. First contacts are madethrough language. Kids2Talk supports the development of multilingualism right from thestart. A spiral-based curriculum makes it possible to bring children on board, whatevertheir age. Around half of all children in Europe are growing up in areas where two ormore languages are spoken. These include children from migrant families, children inborder regions, children whose parents have a different nationality and children ofmobile parents.National education systems and establishments for language support attach littleimportance to early multilingualism. Kids2Talk is using innovative means to try topermanently resolve the socio-educational issue of multilingualism. Kids2Talk supportschildren in their thirst to acquire language and thus takes children in Europe seriously. The aim of Kids2Talk is for children to experience language as something that isexciting, in order to subsequently enable them to make competent decisions regardingintercultural communication, knowledge acquisition in a global world and themanagement of intangible cultural resources. Kids2Talk is developing materials to givechildren an awareness of languages by means of innovative learning through play in theearly pre-school and primary school years. The methods are suitable for all languagesand support the early acquisition of linguistic ability and the capacity for multilingualunderstanding with the aim of generating an understanding of other cultures early in lifein order to later improve Europeans’ competitive capacity and employability in a globaland pan-European context.
