Sustainable movement
In the quality work of the Adult Education Centre of Jyväskylä we put emphasis on developing sustainable development, pedagogy for senior citizens and new teaching methods and teaching environments. In our vision for the future the barriers between subjects have become lower, we have more different kinds of target groups and the number of older students and teachers has grown. In the Centre and in our curriculum sustainable development is clearly appreciated. The teachers are active developers of the whole Centre as well as their own teaching and they are members in international co-operation networks. Through teachers also our students get to create contacts among adult learners across borders. The aim of the project is to reach this vision.
Our quality work spans across several years and our staff will be trained according to our vision. During the project our staff will attend international courses and job-shadowing activities the emphasis of which will be on sustainable development, pedagogy for senior citizens and new innovations in teaching technologies and methods. Also language learning and teaching will be emphasized. We hope to arrange at least part of the mobility activities with partners with whom we will co-operate through a longer period of time.
There are 26 activities in the Sustainable movement -project. Most of the participants will attend European training sessions while three participants will observe adult education organisations in job-shadowing activities. The Adult Education Centre of Jyväskylä already has some existing partners for example in England and Portugal.
When choosing the participants we look out for long-term commitment to adult education and an innovative attitude towards developing the curriculum, new pedagogies and reaching new client groups. We expect that the participants will be involved in the quality work of the whole organisation.
The participants in the Sustainable movement project will grow into adult educators with skills to work internationally. After the project our teachers will work across subject barriers and they will use new teaching methods and technologies in an innovative way. The Centre will have a programme for sustainable development and a certificate to prove its commitment. The needs of senior citizens will be taken into account more systematically than before. There will be courses offered in foreign languages, not only in Finnish. The number of students will increase and student satisfaction will grow as the quality work is reflected in the whole curriculum, the content of the individual courses and in the good practices in the classrooms.
The Adult Education Centre of Jyväskylä intends to disseminate the results of the project in a large area, both regionally and nationally. The innovations in education and the ideology of sustainable development will be spread across the whole range of non-formal education of Finland.
