Inclusive education are special education applications based on the principle of individuals requiring special education continue their education at official and pre-school, primary education, secondary education and mass education institutions together with their peers not having any inabilities and providing support education services.
While there are less than 5000 disabled students receiving education in inclusive education classes in our country at 1990, this number has passed 90,000 during 2010. Ministry of National Education works very efficiently regarding legal and physical arrangements encouraging inclusive education. However, only performing legal arrangements and taking physical measures are not enough because most important actor of education is human and all shareholders such as teachers, administrators and disabled students should be trained regarding inclusive education.
Aims of our project are:
1) Increasing access disabled persons to education
2) Preventing any quality loss in education of other students during access to education of disabled persons,
3) Contributing to breaking the prejudice in the society against disabled persons,
4) Helping to improve self-confidence of disabled persons and their families,
5) Increasing professional competencies and self-confidences of teachers and administrators within our Directorate,
6) Performing sample applications for our city and entire Turkey regarding success of inclusive education and bearing a pioneering role in this issue,
Our participants consist of administrators, teachers, school counsellor in schools that are partner of our project. These participants have adequate training in their own areas however they do not have adequate training regarding how they can eliminate deficiencies that may occur in education of other students in case they focus on inclusive students and how they will work together with inclusive students.
Our participants are expected to gain below given competencies.
General information on mentally disability types, general information on requirements of such students and their capacities of communication and harmony with other students (Asperger Syndrome, Atypical widespread developmental impairment, Dandy-Walker Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Phenyl Ketonuria, Tourette Syndrome, Mental Retardation, Microcephalia, Autism, Reactive Attachment Impairment, Rett Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, West Syndrome, Mental Learning Inability, etc.). Our participants will be trained regarding effects of these disability types during inclusive education. For instance, they will improve their information and experience on which diseases indicate violence or exposure to violence risk, what kind of symptoms will reveal in case of being exposed to violence, which disability types require special support for establishing communication and how these disability types limit understanding and learning capacity of disabled person in which extend, what kind of special treatments required for student having this disability.
The way to fulfil physiological, psycho-social needs of physical, sight and hearing disabled persons and maintaining most adequate education for them. Establishing communication between these students and other students and preventing the risk of social exclusion of these students.
Ensuring other students to consider a disabled student as a friend and peer, preventing behaviours such as belittlement, sentiment and exclusion.
What kind of a struggle can be used for affecting types of other students from the disabled student and pressure they may apply on disabled student,
How will it be prevented disabled students to slow down trainings of other students,
Preventing possible accusations towards disabled student from parents of other students, convincing parents regarding this issue.
Within scope of our project, total 60 persons from 6 different schools will participate to activities. Activities will be performed as 4 different flows. Participants will participate to a structured course during activity. Our hosting partner is responsible for quality of this course.
