PROJECT
FINISHED
Our school is situated in Neulamäki, a suburb in Kuopio.
In our area there’s a lot of unemployment, we have a lot of immigrants and the residents are mostly low-educated.
The rate of absence among some students is fairly high as well as punishment rate and there are cases where the police is also involved. We do co-operate with child-welfare authorities. As teachers we are concerned of the students of becoming marginalized and set aside of the community.
We are eager to develop our activity and teaching methods to the direction where to be able to answer our concern. Also we are in need of the methods that could obtain the students to take part in school work and activities right from the beginning of their school years and interact in our school community as full members. Our aim in this project is to achieve skills of this kind.
It is our delight to have discovered an international course in Iceland with the title: Reaching, Teaching and Keeping learners- Methods and Approaches to reach and increase retention of a risk of disadvantaged learners. This international programme offers an interesting possibility to exchange different experiences and find new ideas together with other participants.
We would like to send two teachers to this education programme to Iceland in 3-8.82014. The teachers involved will deliver all the information to the colleagues at the beginning of the semester. We will experiment and develop suitable methods and practices just for our school.
We will get many good advantages through this project to improve interaction and participation in our weekdays and will help our long-term aim to promote learning, school satisfaction and welfare together with homes and other network.
