PROJECT
FINISHED
Youth exchange #justBIKE! will take place in Ludbreg, Croatia from 14th to 22th of August 2016. It will involve 34 young people from 18 to 30 years old from 5 different countries: Croatia, Romania, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Greece, Poland. Background of this project has its roots in our disapproval with non-efficient way of life in terms of health, environment and money management. Both Croatia and its surrounding region (countries partner NGOs are coming from) is falling behind western Europe in many ways, and cycling culture is most definitely one of them. The overall aim of this YE is to encourage participants and locals to practice a more active and creative lifestyle by using bikes while its objectives are: to develop key competences in a group; to involve 34 young people in a bike repair and video making workshop; to leave at least ten bikes for free public usage afterwards; to develop a community action which will involve a minimum of 150 people. During the exchange participants will learn how to repair and repaint old bikes. After the repairs, these bikes will be donated to free public usage in Ludbreg. A video promoting the benefits of using bicycles based on participants ideas will be filmed with a professional assistance and tutorship. At the very end of the project, a community event will be organised. The point of this is a presentation of all the work done during the project as well as official donation of bikes to the public. The participants will actively partake in this event, interfering with the local community. Activities will be carried out with a focus on using non-formal methods of learning: group work, creative workshops, interactive lectures, problem solving, reflection and self reflection, evaluation, learning by doing and brainstorming. Even though the problem may concern every individual person on the planet, it is particularly important in our local community. Ludbreg is a small town in northwestern Croatia, a region which has an old tradition of cycling but which has been more and more neglected in the past periods. Precisely because of that, we believe that with this project we can renew and revitalize the cycling tradition in the region. Further more, we truly believe we can change the mentality there, especially among young people.
