PROJECT
FINISHED
For the young people in the team and the coordinator of the project several questions have arisen: how has the commitment of young people evolved? Does the current approach address the needs of young people? Should project-oriented youth work adapt to certain evolutions regarding volunteering of young people? The participants are 3-4 young people and a youth worker carrying out the project together, i.e. the young people also participate in the planning and management of the project. On the other hand, young people from the northern part of the German-speaking Community, especially from the municipality of Kelmis, are going to be addressed by the project through a survey in several schools, sports clubs and youth organisations. The selection criteria are their place of residence and their age (13-26 years). The survey is going to be carried out in secondary schools, sports clubs and youth organisations and should give us answers to the questions mentioned above. The results of the survey will be used to make a film. Afterwards, the results and the film will be presented to political decision-makers and young people alike to enable an interesting discussion between both sides. The project team has hopes on an institutional level that, by means of the survey, future projects will address more specifically young people’s needs. Regarding young people themselves, they hope for 1) a better Understanding of young people’s commitment in our society • 2) a dissemination of the possibilities projects offer and therefore an increased participation of young people in projects • 3) young people to realise that they can achieve something by committing themselves to projects; thus, young people should partake more, especially when the subject is relevant to them • 4) a motivation of further young people to comment on subjects regarding society.By means of the presentation of the results and the discussion with young people, political decision-makers should get insight in the world of young people. They may use this knowledge when making decisions that affect young people’s lives.
