Disadvantaged1 young people from Germany / Cologne and Bulgaria / Blagoevgrad (16 young people and 4 Teamer) meet for one
week in Cologne to consider the project topic"Youth for Diversity and Tolerance".
The European Union is a common home for many countries, cultures and religions. In order to have
a peaceful life together, one should be tolerant towards others. In this point our project intends to
the promotion of integration of disadvantaged young people and the awareness of democratic
values. The main planned activity aimes at promoting intercultural tolerance , combating
xenophobic and extreme far right tendencies , as well as the consolidation of democratic and civil
society structures in Germany and Bulgaria and also the investigation of equal opportunities in the
EU. The main objectives of the project are : the transfer of knowledge to young people on EU antidiscrimination
directives and the equal treatment guideline , the awareness of young people for
european citizenship and the promotion and consolidation of personal , communicative ,
intercultural and social competences as well as the promotion of the integration of young people in
society . In the encounter phase, the young people bring their in their home countries prepared
materials about the topic together in order to talk about their research : fighting discrimination ,
intolerance , xenophobia and rights of citizenship . With these questions the young people will deal
during the meeting. As a result of the encounter phase a joint play will be written by the young
people, rehearsed and presented at the end of the week to an audience. Afterwards there will be a
panel discussion . The young people prepare this conversation before moderating it and enter into a
sustainable dialogue on predetermined topics. These are forms of discrimination and intolerance.
Especially at the beginning the young people are guided in their actions before they start to work
more and more independently. However, in the entire course of the project the learning processes of
young people are accompanied by the nice teamer, translator and social education worker at all
times. To make the participants aware of their own behaviour and way of proceeding, they are
reflecting with the young people to improve their behaviour. By language animation, games, and
common leisure activities the participants are allowed to get to know each other and communicate
together.
