PROJECT
FINISHED
The linguistic reality in the present European society is that our citizens see the proficiency in languages as a way to get a succesful social and proffesional incorporation.
Nowadays the knowledge of English, the most used language in official papers, is a requirement mor than a merit.
Our students strongly require us to get them linked in a European communicative perspective.
From this point of view, the Valencian Community is becaming a leader in developing multilingualism.
Multilingualism supposes the ability the Valencian Community has to promote an attitude that permits to know and respect lifestyles which are different to one’s culture.
The use of the two co-official languages (Spanish and Valencian) has favoured the cohesión between differentlinguistic groups and this leads to the integration of English in the academic itineraries from a respectful and cooperative attitude.
Sixto Marco high school has to become a referente regarding the language development/study.
The teachers who are envolved in the starting up of this Project are civil servants with a steady position in the school. We belong to different departments and our aim is to encourage the rest of the academic community to begin with multilingualism.
To begin with, wi’ll get started with the creation of Interactive groups in the classroom.
By clasifying our students into groups, we will lead them into use and improve their linguistic competente an make sure they are going to learn and interrelate in a way that they can get a better academic success.
Each of these groups will be formed by students with different needs, abilities and interests. We will also need volunteers: parents, grandparents, retired teachers and college students.
The students will study the English culture and folklore by means of proverbs and sayings, popular games and short stories.
The idea of grouping mixed ability students Fosters teamwork and the development of skills such as learning to learn, coexisting and increasing their cultural and artistic knowledge as well as improving their emocional autonomy.
Volunteers will act as dynamic agents, not only as cultural literacy facilitators. They will favour everyone’s participation in the development of the activities and will contribuye to minimize any coexistence problems that may arise.
Volunteers must receive their instructions in the classroom, the teachers will encourage them to participate and will inform them that in order to get involved in their children’s learning process there’s no need to know any knowledge in the particular subject.
During the first term in the next two academic years (both 2015-16 and 2016-17) teachers will select the documentsrelated to the three fields we want to work in: travels, seasons food.
The 2nd and 3rd terms in the two academic years, each teacher will organize and Interactive Group in the subjects of Theatre, Non-religious moral teaching, Vocational guidance and Placement program ,Latin and Universal Literature.
In February, April and June there will be 3 presentations taking place. Three English speaking people will be talking about trip, a cooking recipe and seasons.
After listening to these experiences, the students will make the necessary arrangements to plan a trip to any International touristic destination. They’ll also prepare a typical English speaking country recipe and will finally describe the most common characteristics in a profession.
The main goal we aim to achieve is to get enthusiastic and motivated again with the best proffessional practices so as not to keep on teaching in the usual ways.
We’d like to encourage the educational community to bring about this transformation:
TO TEACHERS
-By introducing the practical use of English gradually in their classroom teaching plans in order to link the most relevant concepts with the transition of the students into their active life.
-By introducing the interactive groups as a basic methodology of work in all their didactic plans
TO PARENTS
-By raising awareness of the importance of he family in the student’s learning process
-By strenghthening links of cooperation with the teaching staff
-By giving importance to the fact of working with Interactive groups
-By realising of the importance of the culture of the English speaking communities and the language itself as a way of introducing into proffessions with a future perspective
-By promoting the English language use from home
-By overcoming differences in the acquisition of knowledge and by increasing the success achievement in all of our students.
