Overall objective of the project is to achieve balanced sustainable development built upon the basic strengths of the cross-border region through better acquaintance and popularization of the common cultural heritage aiming steady progress in the cultural exchange. This leads to development of cognitive tourism in the border area and helps the improvement of regional economical development. The project contributes to the achievement of the IPA CBC Programme objectives because it refers to the efficiently use of common cultural heritage of the region as a precondition for building stronger cross-border co-operation and beneficial cultural exchange. Project is focused on the preservation and popularization of common cultural values that form the specific and unique way of life in the cross-border region improving indirectly peoples quality of life. The balanced development of the region and the better quality of life leads to stronger European co-operation and integrity. Achievements: The project developed cultural relations between Yambol and Edirne municipalities which deepened cross-border co-operation in the region, protected the cultural heritage in the area and improved tourism potential of both districts which are not recognized as popular tourist destinations.The main infrastructure activities implemented under the project were reconstruction of Ethnographic centre in Yambol that consists of exhibition halls, conference hall and ateliers for recreation art crafts traditional for region of Yambol and equipping a cultural-information visitors centre in Edirne.Other significant outputs from the project were: created elaborated a long-term Strategy for cross-border cultural cooperation within the period 2012-2015, produced common cultural calendar, developed web page www.yambol-edirne.com, researched and documented historical/cultural heritage for the region; elaborated list with cultural heritage, conducted seminar presenting the common cultural heritage; established bilateral committee for cultural cooperation; conducted Days of Edirne in Yambol, days of Yambol in Edirne, art festival in Yambol and theatre play in Edirne. Implementation of all project activities lead to development of tourism destinations of border region- Yambol and Edirne, strengthening the common cultural heritage and ensuring sustainable utilization of cultural resources.The project has been successfully accomplished in October 2012.
