Joint Interface Third-Cycle Degrees in Chemistry
Start date: Oct 1, 2009,
The closer alignment of the European Higher Education Area with the European Research Area is asking for innovative doctoral programmes at the interface of traditional disciplines; while transparent structures enhancing mobility are the most efficient way for opening the European job market to all young researchers. In this frame, the project is addressing curricular reform at third-cycle level for Ph.D. candidates wishing to study and perform research work at the interface of chemistry and other scientific disciplines. Launched with a survey of the current situation and a needs analysis, the project is aimed at creating descriptors and designing guidelines for the establishment of trans-national interdisciplinary doctorate schools; and at implementing a number of relevant joint degrees in accordance with the requirements of the job market. Consistent harmonized virtual campus infrastructures are assisting the teacher and learner exchange scheme; a permanent support and information point is dealing with current issues; and a pool of experts is guaranteeing full coverage of interface subjects. Research areas envisaged include among other conservation science, didactics of chemistry, computational chemistry, biological chemistry, and technical chemistry.
