The general objective of the project is to improve joint research infrastructure and increase scientific competitiveness of the border area on a European level.The direct beneficiaries of the project are the staff members of the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology at the University of Debrecen and the Department of Preclinical Sciences at the University of Oradea. This group of 30-40 people in itself is very heterogeneous including carrier scientists, postdoctoral fellows, PhD students and technical personnel.The principal idea of the project was generated by regular scientific discussions among the staff members who are continuously looking for new technical possibilities for the investigation of scientific problems. Scientists on the two sides of the border are interested in similar scientific problems but try to approach these issues with complementary methodological approaches. Experts in Debrecen are working on animal models whereas the colleagues in Oradea focus on human studies. Thus, we created a cross-border research team to investigate neurodegenerative diseases and pain from different perspectives. In addition to the common interest and dedication, however, we need a substantial development in our research infrastructure to conduct research which can be competitive at the international level. The main specific activities of the project are: development of research infrastructure; renovation and furnishing of laboratory and related office spaces; pilot studies by using the new research infrastructure; management and communication activities. Expected Results: Main results: neuroscience research infrastructure at the University of Debrecen and University of Oradea increased from 10 to 80%; laboratories renovated and furnished; 6 instruction manuals and protocols for using the new research infrastructure elaborated; 4 mini-workshops for discussing the research potentials of the new research infrastructure; 6 pilot studies on the new research infrastructure conducted; opening and closing ceremony; webpage.
