Języki są kluczem - rozwój poprzez przełamywanie barier
Start date: Jul 17, 2014, End date: Jul 16, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project 'Languages are the key – development by breaking barriers' has been prepared by Zespol Szkoly i Gimnazjum in Niedzwiedz under the new Erasmus+ programme, Key Action 1 - Learning Mobility of Individuals. We are a small public school which comprises Primary School and Lower Secondary School with about 250 students and 25 teachers. Our Zespol Szkoly i Gimnazjum is an ambitious and forward thinking school which aims at keeping pace with the achievements of modern schools nowadays. We are open to new technologies and any kind of development (managment and methodology) as well as exchange good practice and experience with other European schools. The school has already done some multilateral partnerships and professional development courses for the staff under Comenius programme. During the course of the projects we realized that in order to continue Teacher Professional Development as well as School Partnership Programmes, and improving the teacher's range of methodological approaches, providing interesting extracurricular activities, and enhancing management skills we need better knowledge of languages. There are only 3 teachers with good knowledge of English and 2 who speak German fluently and the rest need to improve their language fluency and communication skills so that they will be able to take part in developing European Dimension of our school or to use extremely rich open educational resources inaccessible to them due to poor English language knowledge. In this context the main objective of our project is 'breaking down language barries' of our staff and then furthering their self-improvement and creating effective teaching and learning environment through participation in Erasmus+ In-service training, making contacts with other European schools and becoming members of teacher community across Europe. Another goal of our project is preparing our staff to further actions designed especially for students who are the main and the most important recipients of our activities. However, it would be hard to plan anything without support of well trained teachers and school leaders. We also aim at preparing some teachers to teaching their subjects (Science, Physics, Chemistry) through the medium of English (CLIL) which will play an important role in motivating the students to learn foreign languages. It is expected that the number of participants in the project will include 9 members of the school staff, including 2 foreign language teachers, 3 STEM teachers, ICT teacher, 1 school counselor, 1 P.E. teacher and one member of school management (Assistant Head Teacher). The activities planned in the project cover methodological training mobilities, refresher workshops, language trainings, guided observations of schools. For teachers who know little English the school will hold a 40-hour language course before mobility. The European team and Selection Committee appointed by the Teachers Council will ensure the project implementation, and its organization. The whole project will be coordinated by school coordinator chosen by the European team. These bodies will operate according to strict rules and scheduled tasks. The planned actions and their results will be disseminated without delay throughout the school community. The results of the project will be primarily larger number of teachers and staff who will better and more confidently use a foreign language, and thus will actively take part in future European projects. By participating in the project, they will: - bring a European dimension to education, training and organization of the school, - enrich their teaching methodology with new and modern methods of teaching, - expand the scope of cooperation with other teachers through integration into the European educational community, - expand their cultural knowledge (passing it later to their students) - enhance the interpersonal skills and team work. The project will affect not only school staff, but also the school as an institution raising its rank in the opinion of the local community as an institution that uses the latest technological tools, new methods of teaching and administration of school activities and creating the image of the school growing and open to the world. Involving more members of our school staff in European development programme within Erasmus + project will contribute to enhancing the school's activities in this field and enable active participation of our students in its development.
