Ithaka is a training course happening in Samos, Ellas (Greece), from 29 Dicember 2014 to 5 Jannuary 2015 (excluding travel days). The main thematics were outdoor activities and healthy lifestyles, including exercise, good nutrition, inner balance and active attitude. The number of participants was 31 in total, being 4 of each promoter country (Greece, Portugal, Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Polonia).There was also 3 more persons (2 from Greece and 1 from Poland) like experts-trainers and for the secretary's work. These participants were mainly youngsters and youth workers that are willing to learn and share about the thematic of the training. It is expected that the participants act as multipliers after the project, and raise awareness about this topic.
The main objectives are: to raise awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle; to provide tools and methods for self development and empowerment to an active life; create awareness about good nutrition and healthy habits; promote outdoor activities and the importance for a healthy life and with in the importance of the connection with nature and biodiversity surrounding; share knowledge about the European identity through sports and traditional national and European activities; promote mobility among youngsters and an active role in their lives and in society through an healthy behavior.
The activities were based in active and non-formal methods: team building, discussion sessions, work and reflection groups, games, sports, inter-cultural evenings, visit of the local community, outdoor activities, physical exercise with personal development intent..
The work was done using non-formal education principles, stimulating the development of personal and group competences. In order to achieve this, there were reflection groups at the end of each day, where participant have made a self-evaluation of the competences and skills gained and sharing them in mixed groups. There was also delivered a Youth Pass, and giving time to reflect on it and to fill in. All activities were made concerning the safety of the participants, in particularly in outdoor activities.
