Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Context/Background of project. IES Francisco Aguiar is a Secondary High School, built in 1952. It has been, since its foundation, one of the cultural institutions with the most impact in the area. Through its history, this school has established important relationships with other cultural communities and it has also participated in several educational changes (USA, Poland, Italy, Hungary, Germany). Our interest for a global develoment of the students lead us to a huge variety of extraactivities such as: theatre, music, sports, cultural trips, cinema, arts, reading clubs, ...). The school offers six levels of education. It counts with 16 groups of elementary school and 8 groups of high school (Science and Humanities). The school has around 630 students, 58 teachers and 13 administrative staff members, including an English conversation aid. The ages of the students go between 12 and 18 years old. The sociocultural environment is rich; we can find civil service employers and workers from other sectors, including even agricultural workers within the area. Participants. The people involved in this job-shadowing activity are five teachers with a great experience in intercultural changes, who have a great interest to implement innovative education activities from other foreign countries. Activities and methodology. Since our project, main objectives make students be aware of belonging to a democratic community such as the E.U.; activities will aim to analyze the reality of the E.U. in two different ways: a) Francígena Way. b) Saint Jacques's Way. Both are and have been a fundamental tool to develope the idea of Europe. We can consider them the two greatest ways in Europe. The students will work on different historical, literary, artistical and lingüistic aspects of both ways, with the objective to understand their impact in today´s Europe. Results and impact envisaged. We hope to improve the use of different languages. Improvement the usage of ITC. Improvement of team work skills, using the work/practice/learning method. Learning about new methodologies and new pedagogical practices. Comprehensive education of the participants by contrasting with other communities, cultures, languages and ways of life. We hope to obtain a better understanding knowledge of our European neighbours. Potential longer term benefits. One of the main goals of our project is to share the result with the local community, by implementing different actions, including: a. To send to the different local media the information about our project (newspaper, radio, TV, website of the city, ...). b. To inform our official institutions. c. To share our experiences with our schools and participants. d. The whole of the educational community should take advantage of this experience, including the administrative staff members, pupils and teachers, although they aren´t included in this project; we can talk about this experience to our partners and students at school and to look for information in the websites of each participant. e. Finally, we will show our project in the E- Twinning website.
