In our local work plan for the school year the work of internationalization is a priority. Through international contacts our desire is to give students an intercultural understanding and thus a deeper tolerance for other people and cultures. We have noticed that our boys have difficulties to reach the higher grade levels in modern languages. This is a general problem throughout the municipality. We want to give our language teachers training in the country of the target language so that they have the opportunity to improve their language, broaden their knowledge and experience as regards culture and society, and that they will have better opportunities to create international contacts. Our desire is to give them new tools for their teaching and be able to deal with education in a manner that will enhance students' academic performance. An intercultural understanding and motivation to learn languages is important for our young people. We want to get as many students as possible to maintain the interest in modern languages. Learning a new language is just like getting one more body. It leads to understand the world better. Our plan is to make contact with a school in France and to start an exchange. We want to go with a group of students to the country and also receive the same French students and teachers in our home in Sweden. This means that they will be aware of other cultures and interests brought to eg study abroad, work with different projects in other countries and so on. In addition, they may also try their own wings, and speak the language they study in school. This encourages the students in a particular way and give them additional motivation to continue studying their language. This is so very important for the students and gives them experiences that they will be able to use during their life journey. We have two French teachers at our school who are happy to participate in a professional development this summer. It is very positive that both teachers will be able and want to go on the same course. They can then continue working when they come back to our school, increase cooperation in French and continue working on our project. We have a French network in Jönköping where our French teachers meet regularly. They always bring different experiences, correct essays together, support each other in different ways and simply inspire each other and share their methodical tips. The summer training course is in Corsica and is organized by the European Language France CL AB. The teachers will be instructed to survey results over the past five years as well as conduct an analysis of these in order to identify cause and effect. We will see if we manage to keep our students in modern languages. We will be able to measure the results of the grades and then with a special focus on boys' goal completion. We will also be able too find out if we manage to establish any contact for a future exchange.
