INTERGENERATIONAL LEARNING FOR NATURE CONSERVATION VOLUNTEERS

The proposed project aims contribute to adult learning in the field of volunteering and nature conservation by applying an intergenerational learning approach and innovative learning tools aiming to:- Offer opportunities to senior citizens to become involved in voluntary activity for nature conservation locally, thus improving self-esteem and self confidence, while enhancing their knowledge on volunteering and ICT- Encourage youngsters of secondary school age to become volunteers for nature conservation and developing environmental sensitivity and consciousness while cultivating their respect for the experience and knowledge of older people through intergenerational learning- Improve the capacity of NGOs, schools and adult education institutions to deliver innovative adult education with far reaching benefits for the local communities and the environment; while enabling their staff to improve their qualifications and career prospects- Make adult education more attractive to all ages through the use of game-based learning and participative learning.Project results include: an innovative learning methodology for applying the practice of intergenerational learning in the conservation of protected areas, with a strong element of participative learning mediated by “learning facilitators”; piloting of the learning methodology with small groups of youth, seniors and facilitators; launching its wider application in schools, NGOs and adult education institutions, combined with a international competitions for the best learning results; production of a Learning Guide and a learning tool kit, offering examples of learning materials and activities supported by ICT-based gaming tools; conducting training of trainers-facilitators workshops and webinars, 5 national workshops and one international conference for the dissemination of project results and networking. All major products will be made available through the project’s website in 5 languages: EN, GR, HU, FR, SL, IT.
